Children’s Books for Winter
I love a cozy, beautiful picture book! I hope you enjoy this list of 12 children’s books for winter to cozy up with your babies to read.
Why are Children’s Books Important?
Children’s books are important because they do can do such much for a child. They shape their minds not only by entertaining, but they also can teach early reading skills. There have been many studies done that show that children’s books not only foster a love of reading at a young age, but they also can strengthen family bonds through a shared experience of reading! Reading children’s books to your child not only offers opportunities for connection but also a life-long love of reading and learning. What a wonderful gift to give your child!
“Children’s literature offers young people the possibility to acquire a system of values (educational role), to be engaged in motivating learning activities (didactic aspect), and to deal with inner conflicts and life difficulties (psychological value). Based on international evidence, children’s literature and specifically developed storybooks can encourage the adoption of healthy choices and represent a useful preventive tool to foster young people’s global wellbeing, helping them to better cope with emotional/social problems while proposing proper patterns of behaviours and conveying health contents.” –National Library of Medicine

Children’s Books and Wintertime
Children’s books for winter may be the coziest of all the picture books because everyone is warm and bundled up in them! Lots of layers and warm drinks, candlelight, joyfulness while playing in the snow. Not to mention, in winter we spend a lot of time inside and really just do lots of cuddling. It’s a special time of year with kids. I know it can be hard to be stuck inside a lot because of the cold weather, but there really are many ways to make it a special time as a family.
Some winter activities that we do as family are:
- drinking hot cocoa or other warm drinks together
- saving certain shows to only watch in winter
- lots of fort building and sleepovers
- cozying up to read a lot of children’s books for winter
- eating dinner by candlelight
- bundling up together and building snowmen
- taking winter hikes
- cozy, slow mornings together cuddled up in mama and daddy’s bed.
Organizing Winter Books for Children
Having your winter books sorted and ready to pull out when the season arrives makes it so much easy to actually read them. We have some book ledges in our library to hold seasonal books to grab easily. These are very similar to the ones we have. Having our winter books out is an easy way to bring the season inside and rally adds winter decor in an effortless way. I feel this way about all of our seasonal books!
I hope this winter book list is a wonderful help and addition to your home library!

Gathering books for a family library is a noble task in this day and age. Giving our children books to fill their days and minds will last them a lifetime. Raising children to love books and grow their imagination isn’t easy in our technology-obsessed culture, but it’s a worthwhile endeavor. I love to think of my children reading these books, passed down from me, to their children. Raising another generation to cherish the written word, too!
I hope and pray that this booklist inspires you to fill your home with books!
