A Simple Cleaning Schedule You Will Stick To
If you’re looking for a simple cleaning schedule for home that doesn’t require spending hours cleaning every day, this is the routine I use in our home.
I’ve learned that I do much better as a stay at home mom when I don’t wake up looking around and trying to decide what needs to be cleaned. Instead, I have a few basic chores I do every day and then one main focus for each day.
It keeps things simple, keeps our home reasonably clean, and takes one more decision off my plate. Win, win, win! Have a cleaning schedule is a must for busy moms!
I also made this into a cleaning schedule printable that you can print, laminate, and keep somewhere you’ll actually see it.
A Simple Cleaning Schedule for Home
My cleaning schedule starts with four basic things I try to do every day:
- Dishes
- Laundry
- Wipe the counters
- Sweep the floors
Then, each day gets one main focus.
Monday: Empty fridge, meal plan, and buy groceries
Tuesday: Declutter, dust, and mop
Wednesday: Vacuum and tidy bedrooms and living spaces
Thursday: Wash towels and change sheets
Friday: Clean bathrooms
Saturday: Yard work and tidy porches
Sunday: Rest and reset for the week ahead
That’s it. I’m not trying to deep clean the entire house every week. The goal is simply to keep things moving and manageable. With a full household, staying on top of the mess is what’s important.
Cleaning Schedule for a Stay at Home Mom
Being home all day definitely doesn’t mean you have all day to clean. At least for me!
Especially when you’re homeschooling, making meals, running errands, driving kids to practices, working from home, and doing all the other things that happen in a family.
I don’t want cleaning to be the main thing I accomplish every day.
Having a cleaning schedule for a stay at home mom gives some structure to my week without requiring a complicated homemaking system. I know what needs my attention that day, get it done when I can, and move on.

How to Use This Cleaning Schedule Printable
The most important thing is to put your schedule somewhere you will actually use it.
I recommend printing and laminating your cleaning schedule and putting it right on the refrigerator. You can use a dry-erase marker to check things off or simply keep it there as a visual reminder.
Other ideas to put your printable:
- In a homemaking binder
- Inside a page protector
- On a clipboard in the laundry room
- Inside a kitchen cabinet
And, of course, change the schedule to fit your home. Your house and weekly rhythm may need something completely different than mine.

A Cleaning Schedule to Keep Your House Clean
The reason this system works for me is that I’m doing a little bit every day instead of waiting until the entire house needs attention. Staying on top of the everyday things makes my house more manageable.
The daily chores keep things functioning and running smoothly, while the rotating tasks to make sure bathrooms get cleaned, floors get mopped, sheets get changed, and bedrooms get tidied.
It’s a cleaning schedule to keep your house clean without needing a designated all-day cleaning day. I, for one, do not like to spend a whole day cleaning if I don’t have to!
Turn Your Cleaning Schedule Into a Checklist
If you love checking things off, use this as a cleaning schedule and checklist. It would work very easily as a checklist!
Complete the four basic daily chores and then move on to your focus for the day. Once those things are finished, you’re done. You don’t need to keep looking around for more things to clean. Check those things off and move on with your day!
How to Actually Stick to a Cleaning Schedule
The best cleaning schedule isn’t the most detailed one. It’s the one you can actually keep doing! Because you can make all the schedules and lists all you want, but the ones that are overcomplicated always get left by the wayside.
Keep your daily list manageable. Adjust it when something isn’t working. And don’t turn one missed day into two days’ worth of cleaning tomorrow.
And a word from one busy mom to another… If you don’t mop this Tuesday, there will be another Tuesday.
A simple cleaning rhythm gives you a reasonably clean home without making you feel like you’re constantly cleaning (or constantly deciding what to clean next).
