What is Seasonal Homemaking?
Seasonal homemaking is the practice of adjusting rhythms of household management, decorations, and routines with the seasons of the year. I wanted to provide this resource every month because I find that homemaking can become simpler if we find seasonal rhythms.
There are a lot of different requirements throughout the year to keep a home functional and running smoothly. I will be offering monthly prompts, such as Organize, Update, Replace, and Clean, and then offer ideas of implementing these, plus extra ideas on how to spread these throughout the year .
The Joy of Seasonal Change
A changing season within the home doesn’t have to be a stressful thing. It can actually be exciting as you look through your home with fresh eyes and a new vigor to savor the season. This can come through in new decor, new meal ideas, fresh candles or linens. There is so much joy to take in as the season shifts.
I hope these ideas leave you feeling encouraged and inspired as you fluff your nest this March!

February Homemaking Tasks to Refresh Your Home for Spring
1. Declutter
Decluttering in March is extra nice because you can declutter as you organize and go through your winter things to put away for Spring.
I like to put all the winter things in piles, like decor and clothes, and make a keep and donate pile. This makes it very simple to then put away what you want to keep, but also take an inventory of what you need to plan to buy next year. Now is a grid time to pull up your Notes app on your phone or keep a notebook of “Things to Buy” and add items, such as new gloves, hats, or coats to your list as you donate and organize.
2. Organize:
Next, choose ONE area for this month to organize.
Ideas for this are:
- Organize Bathrooms: Clear out unused items and make a list of things to replace or add to your bathrooms.
- Organize Winter Items: Take the time to organizes those winter items that you are putting away for next year, so that you don’t poll out a big mess next winter.
- Books: Take inventory of books and put them in the order they belong.
2. Update:
Choose ONE area or item to update.
Ideas for this are:
- Home Linens: This could be tablecloths, curtains, or possibly cloth napkins for Spring colors.
- Sheets: Swap for lighter sheets for the warmer weather.
