Simple Floral Decor Ideas
Keeping the decor simple so you can truly focus on what matters is important. Choose 2-3 colors as your color palette that inspire you and go from there.
For this first birthday party, because it was for my daughter and it was in the summer, I was inspired by florals, light pinks, soft yellows, and dusty blues. I also knew I wanted to incorporate this darling Tasha Tudor book called ‘1 is One’. From there, I went through what I already had in my birthday decorations and even home decor for things that might work.
I already had my floral birthday banner made and the blue and white gingham table cloth, as well as the cream and blue vase and chalkboards. Having a few things to start with when planning your decor really helps it come together!
Once I knew I wanted to use blue and white gingham, I took to Pinterest and searched through party decor ideas with blue and white gingham, and found this lovely photo by Joanna Gaines and used it as inspiration!
I was able to use flowers from my garden to make it extra special, but if you don’t garden, head to Trader Joe’s. They have a wonderful selection of flowers that would work perfectly!

Sweet and Simple Inspired Menu
Brunch birthdays are the best, in my opinion. You have so many great ideas and options to choose from and you it’s very budget friendly. I like offering grazing food options, so everyone can just visit and celebrate. I chose to do a spread of:
- Cookies: I made homemade sugar cookies and use this wooden cookie molds with some raspberry jam in the centers.
- Pastries: I like having something that is a little more filling than a cookie, so I made muffins and croissants with jam
- Fruit: I had blueberries, strawberries, and grapes. A fruit salad would be great too.
- Sausage balls: This provides something with more protein
- Drinks: I offered juice, coffee, and water.
- Cake: small smash cake that I purchased from Walmart, and altered for the party!
- Ice Cream
And at the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that your baby’s first birthday was full of love. Whether you used cool ideas like a custom smash cake or kept it classic with a few themed birthday party touches, you’ll look back on this as one of those special moments that made all the difference.
Outfit & Photo Ideas
Having a meaningful first birthday party outfit is so fun and makes great keepsake. For both of y girls, I have enjoyed having a special dress for this first birthday parties!
I scoured Etsy for months and found a sweet white vintage dress. We used it for her first birthday party photos and she wore it for birthday party. It is so darling!
Activities for Guests
Ideas for activities will completely depend on who is invited to the party. If there are lots of young guests or kids invited, here are a few ideas that are frugal, fun, and easy to put together:
- Coloring Pages (would make fun party favors too)
- Sensory play bin for toddlers or water table
- DIY flower crown or flower bracelet making station
- Storytime under the trees or a blanket with a favorite floral-themed book
- Scavenger hunt if it’s outdoors
When you're including older kids at your floral-themed celebration, set up a corner with a bubble machine, a mini ball pit, or even some finger food and fresh fruits that are easy to grab. It’s a great way to keep them entertained while the adults visit.
Keepsakes & Meaningful Touches
I have used these monthly milestone photo cards and first birthday milestone poster for two first birthdays now. They are easy to edit once purchased on Etsy, adn make such sweet keepsakes!
I added the monthly photo cards to a chalkboard on the wall, and I put the 12 month photo in a little, special spot on the mantle. Just a fun way to celebrate how your baby has grown!
The first birthday milestone poster is so easy to edit and print. I added it to a chalkboard on the mantle too.
All he little details really add up and make a meaningful first birthday party. I made a felt crown that will grown with may daughter every year for her birthday, and I love having it to celebrate her every year. I also use the first birthday dress as a keepsake as well.
Tips for Keeping It Simple
Here are a few ideas to keep 1st birthday parties simple and meaningful:
- Focus on a few key decor elements, not perfection
- Shop your home or garden for florals
- Use a few color-coordinated pieces to tie it all together
- Keep the guest list small and intimate with immediate family members
- Prepare food ahead and keep it kid-friendly and light
Create a Meaningful First Birthday Party
One of the sweetest parts of planning a baby’s first birthday party is knowing you don’t need a big party to make it special. A small party with close family, soft music, and a few simple bouquets creates a wonderful time filled with meaningful memories. It's truly the perfect way to celebrate the only birthday where the guest of honor won’t remember—but you always will.
Spend time reflecting on how you want to celebrate your special one year old before you even plan the birthday party. Make special memories instead of focusing fancy details. Make the party your own by using things you personally love! And don’t forget to spend time with your little one, celebrating a wonderful first year together! That’s the most importation thing.
