First little garden harvest of the year! Gardenin First little garden harvest of the year!

Gardening in our little space isn’t about getting copious amounts of food (bc we don’t have the space), but about learning skills, tending the earth, teaching my kids hard work, and let’s face it… it’s like therapy to me! I’ve always liked digging in the dirt and sitting in the sunshine. It really helps me clear my mind and process things.

This year I have grown in tending herbs, growing flowers from tubers, growing potatoes and carrots, and extending our compost area.

In what ways have you grown this year in gardening?

“How lovely the silence of growing things.” I “How lovely the silence of growing things.”

It’s a dreary day here, and the garden is getting some rain. Thankful for a little garden to plant seeds. I enjoy going out there and watching things grow. It’s a highlight of our day at home… seeing what has sprouted overnight 🌱

One thing you don’t hear about a ton is how drafty old houses can be, and after a windy winter, there was so much dust in this room especially. We caulked and will be adding trim under all the windows to help.

I have two more big house projects that I would like to complete before baby girl makes her debut in late July! We will also be doing a renovation on our laundry room that will include adding a little half bathroom in there. Very excited to be getting a few things done on our home! It’s been a waiting and saving game the past few years, but we are getting there.

Cold Brew at Home! I put 5 scoops of coffee in a Cold Brew at Home!

I put 5 scoops of coffee in a quart jar, add filtered water, and leave on my counter for 2 days, shaking every day. Then strain out the grounds and store in refrigerator.
So easy and smooth!

I love adding half and half and maple syrup to my cold brew for a sweet afternoon treat 🌿 ☕️

We made lemon blueberry scones to celebrate starti We made lemon blueberry scones to celebrate starting a new read aloud, The Secret Garden. I have never read this book or seen the movie! I knew I wanted to read it someday so I put off watching before I read. Have you read this book before?

I hear stories from new homeschool mamas that they think most homeschoolers are sugar-coating when they portray a neat and sweet scene on Instagram. I cannot speak for every mama, of course, but I would say that is probably partially true.
I think that the same thinking applies to every single thing people post on here, though. Every job has its hard parts! Just because you don’t always see them doesn’t mean they don’t exist.

So I thought I would give some behind the scene bits from this particular tea time read aloud to give the full story.

SEE: candlight, crumbs (so many crumbs always), cute happy, hungry faces

TASTE: yummy scones

HEAR: kids asking for more milk over my reading, the toddler yelling for more, kids giving narrations when asked

TOUCH: the toddler climbing over me yelling for more

FEEL: pride that their narrations were actually really good, pride that I didn’t lose my cool from being overstimulated!

There ya have it! The whole story behind the picture ✨

We have been spending lots of time at home this pr We have been spending lots of time at home this pregnancy, and I have struggled with feeling bad about it. And then I realized…. these slow & simple moments and days aren’t wasted!

These slow days have:

🌿 Strengthened sibling bonds
🌿 Helped cultivate a love of home
🌿 Grown my children’s love of reading
🌿 Allowed us to get adequate rest
🌿 Cultivated imaginations
🌿 Allowed time for new hobbies

In what ways have slow & simple days helped your family?
