Spring Cleaning Made Simple
It’s time to throw open the windows and do some spring cleaning! After a long, stuffy winter inside, with germs and dust, I love a home refresh, don’t you? Here are some tips for spring cleaning made simple that will help you along the way.
Going into the rest of the year will feel so much better after you have freshened and decluttered your home this spring. Taking time to be intentional about cleaning areas that are often neglected will help you maintain a tidy home.
This guide will help break down your spring cleaning into simple, manageable steps, and the printable checklist is so handy to keep track as you go!

Declutter First: The Key to Easy Cleaning
It’s best to start with a quick purge of your home. That way you aren’t trying to weed through trash and junk while you clean. Go room to room and remove items are are unused or unnecessary. You can take as little or long as you like, but I prefer to do this quickly so I don’t slow down my momentum. Dont overthink! Just grab a bag and get to work.
Now that you have gone room to remove and removed those items, now it’s time to decide what you want to do with these items. My favorite way of doing this is the “Keep, Donate, Trash” Method. You can use cardboard boxes and a trash bag for this, but essentially, sorting your purged items into the categories will help you as you move forward.
TIP: When you are decluttering, start with high traffic areas first. Areas like kitchen counters, closets, and the entry points to your home are great places to start.
Create a Spring Cleaning Checklist
Before you begin your actual spring cleaning, it’s best to come up with a plan. Take time to figure out these priorities:
- Where will you start?
- Choose the rooms you want to clean in which order. Tackle one space at a time.
- Prioritize deep cleaning tasks during this time. This is more than just a weekly pickup. Focus on areas that are often neglected, like baseboards, windows, appliances, and carpets.
- Set a timeline for when you will begin and end, and how much time you would like to spend on these tasks each day.

Must-Do Deep Cleaning Task Ideas
- Wash Windows & Curtains: Let in more natural light by wiping down windows and washing window treatments. My house gets so dusty in winter, so this is a must!
- Deep Clean Carpets & Rugs: Vacuum thoroughly or rent a carpet cleaner to get them really clean. I also love using Folex for stain treatment if you do not want to rent a carpet cleaner.
- Give the Kitchen a Good Scrub: Clean out the fridge, wipe down cabinets, and sanitize countertops. This will make your kitchen feel so fresh!
- Refresh Bedrooms: Wash bedding, flip mattresses, and declutter nightstands. I like to take time to see what I need to refresh the space in the coming months, such as new bedding or throw pillows.

Take Time to Refresh and Organize Your Home
- Swap out any seasonal décor to bring in fresh colors and lighter fabrics to reflect the season.
- Reorganize closets and storage spaces. Take time to store winter items and make space for spring essentials.
- Switch to natural scents and fresh air after a long winter. I like to open windows, use essential oils, or bring in fresh flowers or plants. Or maybe all three!
Quick Tips for Keeping Spring Cleaning Simple
- I like to use a multi-purpose cleaner, like my DIY spray to minimize products to save time and effort. This really help to cut down on decision fatigue and you can just spend your time getting the work done.
- Working in 15-30 minute bursts help to curb the burnout or overwhelm. You can even set a timer for this!
- Get the whole family involved by assigning small tasks to make cleaning faster and easier. I like to assign small tasks within one area to get them done quicker.
Finding ways to keep spring cleaning simple and stress free will help to get it done without overwhelm. Then you have all the time to enjoy your refreshed space!
Start small when taking on your spring cleaning and try to enjoy the process. I like to get a coffee and get some music going, and just start tackling one task at a time!
