I’m raising readers over here.📚

And I’m not talking about a steady diet of twaddle and Captain Underpants either.

I’m talking about Truth, Beauty, and Goodness in the written word.

Books filled with tales of courage and character, adventures in faraway lands like Narnia and Middle-earth, and characters who show them what it means to be brave, loyal, and good.

Books that introduce them to girls like Anne and Jo who are actually worthy of knowing and emulating.

Books that take them to different places and times, make them think, grow their imaginations, and help shape the kind of people they’re becoming.

Books have carried me through some really hard seasons of my life… both as a child and as an adult.

So yes, I care about math and history and all the other things we’re learning around here.

But one of the greatest things I hope to give my children through their education is a heart and mind filled with good books. And the lifelong habit of reaching for them. ♥️

You won’t catch me wasting much food around here! I used the last of Sunday’s roast for this delicious stew. There’s so much to be said about growing in intuitive cooking. A little of this and a little of that… and you’ve got your self a feast ✨

Basic stew base was chicken broth (would have used beef stock if I had but alas, I used up my chicken broth), a can of tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, lots of spices, 4 tiny carrots 😂, a few potatoes and green beans! This was really very good.

Aldi for the win with the maple leaf cookies! We had them for tea time this week. I grab a few boxes of these every fall, and it’s become a special tradition for us. I love having simple things like this to help us celebrate the season every year. Just fun little things to look forward to 🍁🍂

Also, I’m pretty sure Trader Joe’s carries these too :) they are both really good! Great treat with coffee, too ☕️

I had chicken pot pie on the menu this week and fu

I had chicken pot pie on the menu this week and fully planned on making it the normal way… and then I remembered we had practice. Whoops!

So into the crockpot it went, and it actually turned out SO good.

Easy Crockpot Chicken Pot Pie

Ingredients:
• 1.5 cups Chicken (I used precooked)
• Mixed veggies (I used 1 cup each of peas and carrots)
• 2 cups Chicken broth
• 1/4 cup Milk
• 1/2 cup Flour
• Salt + pepper
• Garlic powder
• Onion powder
• Refrigerated pie crust

How I made it:
• Add chicken, veggies, seasonings + chicken broth to the crockpot.
• Cook on HIGH for 2–3 hours.
• Turn to LOW and stir in the milk + flour.
• Add the refrigerated pie crust right on top. (I had to cut mine a little to make it fit.)
• Put a clean tea towel under the crockpot lid to catch the condensation.
• Cook on LOW for another 1½–2 hours, until the crust is cooked through.

And dinner was ready when we got home from practice.

Definitely adding this version into the dinner rotation.
