12 Days of Christmas Homemaking

Christmas is the best time of year! The traditions, the sights, the smells. It’s also a busy time of year for the homemaker. Whether you are a full-time or part-time homemaker, we all are preparing our homes to celebrate the birth of Christ, and to create lasting memories with our families. I wanted to do a fun series of 12 Days of Christmas Homemaking to inspire you as a homemaker as you prepare your hearts and homes for Christmas.

“The day the Christmas tree went up in our home, the whole world seemed to shift. Even an ordinary day was extraordinary because the Christmas tree was alight, the Christmas carols playing on the stereo in their once-a-year lineup. It was as if the lights from the tree were scattered, star-lie, throughout our existence, infusing the familiar with a sense of mystery. Everything seemed to wink and sparkle, speaking of some joy beyond the touch of my childlike words.”

DIY Evergreen Garland

There’s something so charming about real evergreen at Christmas. It gives an old fashioned, primitive feel that really can’t be beat. I have been making DIY evergreen garland for my front porch for the past few years, and it’s a beautiful, but incredibly frugal way to decorate the outside of our 1935 craftsman home. Here are some simple instructions to make your own!

“Since joy is central to celebrating Advent, don’t let celebrating Advent become the thing that you carry like a burden. Do what you can joyfully do, and ask God to give you more capacity year after year.”
