Welcome to our uncurated homeschool! We had such a Welcome to our uncurated homeschool! We had such a peaceful day yesterday, and I just had to document it. Not every day looks this calm.

The toddler sometimes interrupts. The kids sometimes struggle to focus.

But it has taken YEARS of faithfulness to get here. YEARS of learning to listen to the Bible while we work quietly with our hands. And like I said, most days we are still working at this.

@cindyordoamoris has always been so encouraging to me in homeschooling to remain faithful to the work at hand. It’s the day in and day out that we can faithfully complete, not all the grand plans we could never live up to!

Based on my priorities in educating the souls & minds of my children, what can I commit to daily? And how am I going to faithfully accomplish it? This is the beauty of morning time to me.

Our morning time schedule (spread throughout the week) consists of:

- Prayer
- Bible reading
- Poetry
- Bible memorization
- Artist study
- Composer study
- Hymns
- Folk songs
- Geography
- Habit & Character
- Calendar work

We have done more or less throughout the years. Sometimes I have scheduled too much and we don’t get things done. This year I have paired back and it’s been such a sweet spot of holding their attention and time together!

“I had a mother who read to me Sagas of pirates wh “I had a mother who read to me
Sagas of pirates who scoured the sea,
Cutlasses clenched in their yellow teeth,
“Blackbirds” stowed in the hold beneath.

I had a Mother who read me lays
Of ancient and gallant and golden days;
Stories of Marmion and Ivanhoe,
Which every boy has a right to know.

I had a Mother who read me tales
Of Gelert the hound of the hills of Wales,
True to his trust till his tragic death,
Faithfulness blent with his final breath.

I had a Mother who read me the things
That wholesome life to the boy heart brings—
Stories that stir with an upward touch,
Oh, that each mother of boys were such!

You may have tangible wealth untold;
Caskets of jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be—
I had a Mother who read to me.”

Children’s treasuries (and anthologies) are one of Children’s treasuries (and anthologies) are one of my favorite budget-friendly ways to build a home library, especially if shelf space is limited!

Anthologies are collections of literary works like short stories, poems, plays, or even essays that are chosen and compiled together into one book.

Treasuries usually bring multiple complete works or classic stories together in one volume. They can be centered around a favorite author, like Beatrix Potter, or a holiday like Christmas, or even just a collection of wonderful children’s stories.

These are such a budget friendly way to grow your library! More good stories, less money, and less shelf space.

These also make the sweetest baby gifts for parents who want to start collecting good stories from the very beginning.

I love filling our shelves with books worth owning. The kind of books I actually enjoy looking at and reading aloud. The ones we come back to year after year, and hopefully pass down someday. These 10 books would absolutely make the cut. (There’s actually 11 😅)
